A Speedy Entry
06.14.08 (3:36 pm)   [edit]
You know what I notice is, the briefer and more cogent blogs get read! I can't believe that this is something that occurs to me just now. Amazing, but true, those blogs where many (though brilliant) words are used to say a thing, get skimmed by so many visitors. This is so sad, but I fear so true.

So here's my befuddling conundrum: how to hold a person's attention, yet how to do it quickly. Seems to me, this is the work of one who's really skilled. Since I'm not yet that person, I'll keep at it - and hope you'll all bear with me!

You are quite right! When I come across a super long blog..there is no way I'm going to spend the time to read the whole thing, unless it's something that really interests me!! Like you, I don't have time to read a lot of drivel!!!!

Attention spans are short so one of the rules in blogging is get to the point, stick to the point and make it as short as possible.

Indeed, even when a thing interests me, I ponder. So that thing'd best be brief! Thanks for your words, barnabus.

Oh yes, and attention spans require a concentration that surpasses even the shortest of blogs. And so stick to the point we shall!!

With life being hectic in all and people come here to excape from the world and it's problems I for one like to think that less is more. It's not that we don't think your life isn't worth reading, it's just that we have been programed for short sound bites.

Here's a name I'm not familiar with - welcome! Isn't that "we have been programed for short sound bites" just what makes us both sad and yet so resolute? Interesting ...

good morning....

After re-reading my comment it sounds like I have a stick in my keaster and I didn't come off warm and friendly. Lately I've been struggling with my own attention disorder and I have taught myself the art of skimming or scanning what I read and when doing that I tend to lose what the author is saying.

I've found that I get a lot less readers and comments if I have longer posts then when I have short ones. I also discovered that if I want to hold someones attention I need to break up the post into sections. Here's the kicker, people will read 3 short posts sooner then reading one long post even though it takes the same amount of time reading the long post and the 3 posts together.

I hope I'm making sense, this small comment window makes me lose sight of my thoughts........

*************

I stand steadfast in the resolve of making people feel welcome and appreciated regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, political affiliate in the hopes of making friends the world over.

"it sounds like I have a stick in my keaster"

Oh, hardly! It sounds like you're quite a thoughtful and *on target* writer. This is exactly what makes readers of the blog different from readers of other venues like newspapers, even novels.

I love your observation about the different sections. Indeed people *will* sooner read three of these, than one long blog - Interesting.

"this small comment window makes me lose sight of my thoughts........"

Another interesting point, I wonder if you realized you made - just kidding, I think! This small box, does indeed *urge* our thoughts into a "small" space.

Your final point is my very favorite about you, and I hope we'll become good friends! Hopefully my race, religion sexual orientation etc, etc will become only very interesting and loveable aspects of who I am. I feel very welcome at your site.

Thank you *so* much!!

ALias.....cheek in tongue. I try to straddle the fence when it comes to shinnanagans and I usually slip on the side of, "Oh, no he didn't just say that!"

Sounds like we're kindred spirits. And as such, we'll be well met in heaven - or *wherever!* Well met now, to be sure.

No doubt. It's a journey of a lifetime and it begins with the realization that we are all connected in one way or another.
